Dragon Ball Daima's Ending Proves the Anime Is Nothing Like Dragon Ball Z
I'm a huge fan of Dragon Ball DAIMA because it wasn't like any other entry in the franchise, except for maybe the original Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball DAIMA did its own thing, and I think that's for the best. Dragon Ball Super can be seen as Dragon Ball Z 2, as the two entries in the Dragon Ball canon share a lot of similarities thematically. They both focus on action, telling their stories through some of the best fights in anime.
Dragon Ball DAIMA does the opposite. At its core,Dragon Ball DAIMA is unique within the world of Dragon Ball, and that's what helps set it apart.
Dragon Ball DAIMA Will Be Remembered Fondly
People Will Look Back On DAIMA With The Same Nostalgia As Other Entries In The Franchise
There have been some mixed reviews about Dragon Ball DAIMA. A lot of people have been saying that it was disappointing, and I can see where they're coming from. Dragon Ball is one of the best anime series of all time. I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z and playing a litany of Dragon Ball video games, so I know just how high expectations can get for one of the most beloved and respected franchises in the entire art form.
Dragon Ball is most known for its fights. Whether it's Vegeta vs. Goku on Earth, Goku turning Super Saiyan for the first time on Namek against Frieza, or Goku vs. Jiren during the Tournament of Power, the series has been centered on action for a long time. While Dragon Ball DAIMA has a ton of great fights itself (looking at you, Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta vs. Tamagami Number Two), that wasn't the focus of the series.

Dragon Ball Daima Finale Ushers In Goku's Greatest Kamehameha of All Time: Watch
Dragon Ball Daima's finale had all the action anyone could want from the series, and Goku's most iconic move has never looked better.
If you went into DAIMA expecting to see Dragon Ball Z 3, you were more than likely disappointed. If you went in open-minded, however, you probably had a pretty good time like me. While fans might be frustrated with the series right now, I don't think they will be in a few years. I think that Dragon Ball DAIMA will age very well for a number of reasons, and people won't be upset about the series for too much longer.
DAIMA's Ending Wasn't What Anyone Saw Coming
Dragon Ball DAIMA's Ending Was Unexpected, To Say The Least
I think I can speak for everyone when I say that I didn't see Dragon Ball DAIMA's ending coming whatsoever. I thought that we would see a lot more from the series, including a potential Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta, a fusion between Goku and Vegeta, and maybe an epilogue of our heroes returning to Earth. We did get to see Super Saiyan 4 Goku brought back to the canon, but that was about it.
Dragon Ball DAIMA was only 20 episodes long. It was the shortest entry into the Dragon Ball canon by some distance. Even Dragon Ball GT is 64 episodes long, over three times all of DAIMA. While there's still no telling whether Dragon Ball DAIMA will get a season 2, the series seems done. The ending wrapped up all the loose ends, even revealing that the incredibly powerful Evil Third Eye was actually an item the heroes could buy from one of the first places they stopped at in the series.
Dragon Ball DAIMA Is Dragon Ball At Its Funniest
DAIMA Has Some Of The Funniest Moments In All Of Dragon Ball
While Dragon Ball has always had funny moments, Dragon Ball DAIMA was the franchise at its funniest. There's no shortage of hilarity in DAIMA. Even the very concept of the show is funny. All the world's strongest fighters get reverted to children, creating nothing but laughs for the remainder of the series.
Even Vegeta, the toughest Saiyan in Dragon Ball, has more than a few funny moments. Vegeta is never one to back down from a fight, nor is he one to share. He and Goku have always had a mutual agreement that when one of them is fighting, the other will wait their turn, which is funny in and of itself. Goku realizes that Vegeta isn't going to win his fight against Gomah while the then King of the Demon Realm uses the Evil Third Eye, so he tries to swap out with him.
In full Vegeta fashion, the Prince of Saiyans says that he'd rather die than back out of the fight. Bulma, easily one of the smartest characters in Dragon Ball, came up with an idea on the fly to get her husband to step down. She told Vegeta that if he kept fighting, she would never bathe with him again. Vegeta then exited the fight faster than he got into it, showing just how much the Saiyan had changed.

Dragon Ball Daima Is Done, Leaving One of the Anime's Top Plot Holes Wide Open
Dragon Ball Daima's ending left behind a massive plot hole, but is this mistake relevant to the overarching story of the franchise?
This would never have happened in Dragon Ball Z, and probably wouldn't ever happen in Dragon Ball Super either. Moments like these (and Vegeta referring to his Super Saiyan 3 form as 'Ultra Vegeta 1') show just how funny Dragon Ball DAIMA is.DAIMA has great fights, sure, but what really defines the series are the jokes within it. Making Vegeta one of the funniest characters in the series is no easy feat, and Dragon Ball DAIMA pulls it off with ease.
Dragon Ball DAIMA's Ending Was Hilarious, For Better Or Worse
DAIMA Was Unlike Any Other Dragon Ball Entry Whether You Like It Or Not
Dragon Ball DAIMA also had more than a few funny moments in its ending, solidifying itself as the funniest entry in the franchise. Gomah and Degesu playing video games while imprisoned, Vegeta's back-and-forth with Goku, and even the gang finding two more Evil Third Eyes showed that even in the end, Dragon Ball DAIMA put funny first.
I loved Dragon Ball DAIMAexactly for what it was. It was never going to be another iteration of Dragon Ball Z, and while that might have disappointed fans who were looking for another version of their favorite series, I loved that aspect of it. I was more than happy to see the Z Fighters take on a new challenge in a new world with entirely new themes and will be happy to revisit the series in the future.
