Robert Pattinson Addresses The Batman 2 Delays 7 Months Before Original 2025 Release Date

Robert Pattinson is not happy with how long The Batman - Part II is taking to get made. The first movie in director's Matt Reeves trilogy of Batman movies was released in 2022. Since then, no significant updates about The Batman - Part II's story have been released. While some of the original film's cast is confirmed to return, that is the extent of what is known about the sequel. The Batman - Part II was originally set to debut in October 2025, later being pushed to 2026, before arriving at its October 1, 2027, date. Those delays have not been received well.

Speaking with HERO Magazine, Robert Pattinson poked fun at The Batman - Part II's delays. The main draw of his version of Batman was how the audience got to see a rookie Bruce Wayne, who made mistakes and rose above them. Pattinson was 33 when The Batman started filming in January 2020. The actor is now 38, with filming for the sequel tentatively scheduled for later in the year, so Pattinson's comment about how he will be "old Batman" in the sequel makes sense. As he will be 39 when the upcoming DC film starts shooting, the delays are hurting the franchise's story. Check out the full quote below:

“Naomi Ackie: It’s amazing. And obviously, you’re Batman – are you going to do Batman again soon?

Robert Pattinson: I fucking hope so. [laughs] I started out as young Batman, and I’m going to be fucking old Batman by the sequel. [both laugh]”

What Robert Pattinson’s The Batman 2 Comments Mean

The DC Movie's Delays Impact The Franchise Heavily

While Pattinson jokingly commented on his age being a factor due to The Batman - Part II delays, he is very much right to do so. Director Matt Reeves has delivered portions of the story of the sequel to DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Although they like what they have seen, the full script for the anticipated movie has yet to be finished. The Batman - Part II simply cannot face any more delays. As it stands, the movie's delayed nature impacts both the setup for Pattinson's Batman, as well as the DCU's plans for its Dark Knight.

The DC Universe's Latest Reveals Make A Jensen Ackles Batman Casting Seem More Possible Than Ever

Jensen Ackles is the most popular choice to play the DCU's Batman, and after new updates on The Brave and the Bold film, the casting is more possible.

The Batman did not focus on Bruce Wayne's first year as Gotham City's protector. However, it was set very early into his career as Batman. While Pattinson's character could pummel enemies at will, he lacked the finesse and experience the Dark Knight has exhibited in other live-action incarnations. With the actor nearing 40 by the time The Batman - Part II starts rolling, Pattinson will have a harder time projecting that persona onscreen and making it believable. Add the fact that a third Batman movie is planned for Reeves' trilogy, and Pattinson could be around 45 by the time it releases.

Our Take On Robert Pattinson’s The Batman 2 Comments

The Batman Franchise Needs To Get Its Act Together

Like Pattinson, I hope that The Batman - Part II will finally start filming later this year. I really enjoyed the setup of a younger Batman learning how to be his best self through trial and error. Having an actor around 40 in such a role starts to become distracting for the story the franchise wants to tell. It is frustrating that it is taking so long for the sequel to come together. While I understand the original delay was due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, moving The Batman - Part II to 2027 is solely on Reeves not finishing the script.
