Leonardo's New Look Is the Perfect Matrix Tribute I Never Knew I Needed
WARNING! Spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has just introduced a new look for Leonardo, as the blue-bandana-wearing Turtle brother dons a dope leather coat straight out of The Matrix. Leo’s new look fits the dark turn the new series has taken, as the four Turtles have never been more estranged while the Foot clan takes apart New York City from within.
Coming from the creative team of Jason Aaron, Juan Ferreyra and Shawn Lee, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7 continues the soft reboot of the series, which began with the brothers separated while the Foot clan were establishing a new power base thanks to the help of District Attorney Hieronymus Hale.
Although the four brothers have been reunited, it hasn’t been a happy reunion. All four have been at each other’s throats, which ultimately leads them to split up again to find a way to deal with the Foot problem. Leo goes off in search of Karai, and he’s got a dramatic new look.
Leo’s Leather Jacket in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Is Right Out of The Matrix
Can Fans Get an Action Figure, Please?
Leo sports a long overcoat as he confronts a group of violent looters ransacking turtles in an exotic animal store, before the newly-assigned Foot patrol crawls out of the shadows. With two katana strapped to his back and his coat blowing dramatically in the rain, Leo has simply never looked more like a badass. From classic John Woo movies to The Matrix, long trench-coats have always looked great in action scenes, and it’s a visual that lends itself well to the kinetic, martial arts action scenes that have always defined the TMNT franchise.

Splinter's Shocking New Form - TMNT's Mentor Returns to Official Lore 6 Years After His Death
Splinter's death rocked the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and changed the franchise forever; now, his unexpected return could do the same.
Readers are treated to a scene of Leo, Mikey, and Raph fighting off the Foot on their own later in the issue, and the brief glimpses of Leo slicing his swords around with his coat whipping in the breeze are about as cool as it gets. Ferreyra joined the series as the ongoing artist after the series of guest artists in the first five issues, and TMNT #7 shows why he is the perfect choice to handle the art chores as the Turtles enter a new age at IDW.
TMNT’s New Comic Series Shines Thanks to a Stellar Creative Team
Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra Are Killing It
Leo looking like a badass in a long leather trench-coat is just one reason why it’s never been a better time to be a TMNT fan. The new series is a reboot that still keeps the previous IDW run in continuity, but it finds a new way to look at the Turtles to continue their story in an exciting way. With their backs against the wall thanks to Hieronymus Hale and the Foot or their own fractured relationship, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues to keep fans engaged with each new issue. Hopefully “Leo in a coat” gets an action figure soon.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) is a multi-media franchise that began with Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s comics in the 1980s. Throughout the years, their comic books expanded to movies, TV shows, video games, and toys. Most notably, the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ran for nearly a decade and has become a nostalgic staple of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Several other movies have featured the four anthropomorphic turtle brothers (Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael), including the trilogy of live-action films in the ‘90s and the more recent movies Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
