Spider-Man 3 Actor States Peter Parker Will Be Back Doing Spidey Things After Cliffhanger Ending To Spider-Man 2

While a sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has yet to be announced, the voice actor behind Peter Parker has already provided some insight into what the character's role will be in a prospective sequel. Originally released in 2023, Spider-Man 2 differentiated itself from the first game by featuring two playable protagonists, splitting gameplay and story between Peter Parker and Miles Morales, while also adapting the popular symbiote storyline from the original comics.

This article contains spoilers for the ending of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Yuri Lowenthal, Peter Parker's voice actor, confirmed that the original Spider-Man will still be active in the prospective Marvel's Spider-Man 3. As stated by Lowenthal, "He will be a part of the next game and he won't be relegated to the couch," essentially confirming that Peter will still be one of the main playable protagonists in the next game.

This lightly contrasts with the ending of Spider-Man 2, which saw Peter Parker taking a break from being Spider-Man but is still in line with what was implied.

Spider-Man Will Be Making A Comeback In Spider-Man 3

Peter Parker Will Still Play A Major Role In The Next Spider-Man Sequel

Following the ending of Spider-Man 2, some players may have thought that Peter Parker was essentially being relegated to side character status in favor of Miles, but Lowenthal's statement confirms that he will still play a large role. In all likelihood, this would mean that the third game in the series would expand on the multiple-protagonist split of Spider-Man 2, with Peter, Miles, and potentially one other character all being playable.

Currently, however, very little is officially known about the next Spider-Man game, and it's unlikely to see a release anytime soon. Following the release of Spider-Man 2, developer Insomniac Games has been largely silent, but the studio already has one other project in development with Marvel's Wolverine, which was initially revealed in 2021. While it's unknown what the studio's current focus is,a prospective Spider-Man 3 may only launch after Wolverine.

Spider-Man 2 Left Fans With More Questions Than Answers

Some Players Thought Peter Parker Was Permanently Retired At The End Of Spider-Man 2

At the end of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, following the death of Harry Osborn, one scene shows Peter taking a step back from his Spider-Man duties to focus more on his personal life, passing the lead to Miles. That, along with the post-credits introduction of Cindy Moon (AKA Silk from the comics), led some players to believe that Peter Parker was retiring permanently, and the next game would feature Miles and Cindy as its two main protagonists.

While Peter's break was never implied to be a permanent retirement, players will be happy to know that he's still going to be an active part of the story heading into the next game. Many fans of the games, the comics, and Spider-Man as a franchise are particularly attached to Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man, and wouldn't have wanted to see him sidelined in favor of other characters.

Hopefully, if the next game after Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is going for three protagonists, it can strike a good balance between them.
